Tanzania Photo Safari 2027: Chase the Great Migration River Crossing
A Wildlife Photography Workshop in Tanzania You'll Never Forget — August 2027

If you've ever dreamed of standing at the edge of the Mara River as thousands of wildebeest thunder across, cameras up, heart pounding, this is the trip. Photo Adventures With Ron is heading back to Tanzania in August 2027 for an exclusive Great Migration river crossing photography tour and we're saving just 6 spots for photographers who want more than a safari. You want the shot.
This isn't a bus tour with a camera along for the ride. It's a Tanzania photo safari built from the ground up for photographers, led by Ron Wyatt and Tanzanian guides on the ground the entire trip, so you always have expert eyes beside you when the light and the action gets good.
Why This Is the Tanzania Photo Safari Photographers Talk About
Every year, over a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of zebra, and countless gazelle move through the Serengeti ecosystem in one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on Earth. August is prime time for river crossings in the northern Serengeti, where herds gather on the banks, hesitate, and then explode across the Mara River often with crocodiles waiting below.
For a wildlife photography workshop in Tanzania, timing is everything, and that's exactly what this itinerary is built around: four full nights based right in the crossing zone, with morning and afternoon game drives every single day, so you're positioned when the herds move, not scrambling to catch up.
Along the way, you'll also photograph:
- Elephants in Tarangire National Park, known as the "home of elephants," often gathering in large family groups along the Tarangire River
- Lions on the ground, in trees, and reflected in Serengeti waterholes at golden hour
- Leopards, giraffes, hippos, and the tree-climbing pythons Tarangire is famous for
- The vast, open plains of the central and northern Serengeti, where the light and the landscape are as much a part of the story as the wildlife

What Makes This a Photography-First Safari
Unlike a general sightseeing safari, every detail of this trip is designed around getting photographers into position for the light and the moment:
- Two professional photographers on staff, in addition to Ron, offering hands-on composition, settings, and technique guidance in the field — not just pointing out animals, but helping you come home with images you're proud of
- Small group size — just 6 photographers so there's room to shoot, personalized guidance, and no fighting for window seats
- Camps positioned for the action, especially the four nights at Baobab Mara Luxury Camp in the heart of the crossing zone
- An optional dawn balloon ride over the Serengeti, available at extra cost, for a bucket-list aerial perspective of the plains, wildlife, and light you simply can't get from the ground

New for 2027: Take Home a Coffee-Table Book of the Trip
Here's something new we're offering for this Great Migration photo safari: at the end of the trip, we'll pull together the best images from everyone on board — Ron, our pro photographers, and every participant — into a professionally printed coffee-table photography book documenting the journey.
It's a keepsake of the migration, the landscapes, the wildlife, and the people you shared it with, shot by the very group you traveled with. The book is available for $125 per person and will be mailed directly to you after the trip.
It's one thing to come home with a memory card full of images. It's another to have a beautifully printed book on your coffee table that captures the whole story of the trip in your photos and your teammates' photos alike.
A Note on the Maasai
Tanzania is Maasai land, and we're honored to include a respectful cultural visit as part of this journey. It's a small window into a rich, living culture approached with the respect it deserves.
